Aaron ran the Stockholm Marathon in May.
His goal was to qualify for the Boston race so he could run it with his
buddy Mark, who was already registered.
Aaron's cheer squad, eating ice cream while waiting for Dad. Melynn's friend Devon had joined us.
It ended up being a tough race for Aaron. He was on target up to the last few miles and then started having cramps in his legs which slowed him way down!
Aaron's finish time was 3:31. A great time but 6 minutes off of what he needed to qualify.
Then he decided to DO IT AGAIN!!!
Aaron was planning on being in Utah to visit Ashtyn right after a meeting in Chicago. The day Aaron was to be in Utah was also the day of the Utah Valley Marathon. We discussed it and we both though "Why Not?" The training had all been done and all it was was one more day of running, right????
I love this picture showing Mark anxiously waiting for Aaron.
The Nilsen's had also happened to be in town that day for Thomas' Utah reception.
So grateful for those that came and supported Aaron that day...
Nilsen Clan, Brittany, Ashtyn and Wil.
Well, Aaron and I learned that this ended up not being a great idea.
Aaron had a really tough time on this race. I am sure that the combination of jet lag, altitude and having just run a marathon two weeks previously did not help. Aaron said he felt like his body just completely shut down and was weak all over. His finish time was around a 4:10. He does not remember the exact time. This race was Aaron's 10th marathon.
However, it was wonderful to have the love and support of friends and family!
